Hi! I'm Subramanyam, most people know me as Subbu. I am an Engineering Leader who loves to build and scale sophisticated products.

I spent the first 7 years of my career developing large-scale, real-time distributed systems — building multi-tenant data pipelines that scaled 40x from 250k to over 10 million events per minute, migrating monoliths into microservices, and working across IoT and manufacturing domains.

I then moved to a fitness startup for a couple of years, building a heart fitness platform around real-time heart rate data, guided training plans, and AI-driven nudges, leading a team of five. The startup unfortunately didn't work out, but it taught me how to build, ship, sell, and know when to pivot.

Currently, I lead Engineering at a FinTech startup, building systems from scratch to power education loan processing at scale — supporting thousands of applications daily for an NBFC with ~2,000 crore AUM. Along the way, I'm rethinking age-old lending processes with AI. I'm the biggest IC on the team while also leading a lean tech, product, and support team — leveraging AI heavily so that a small team can punch well above its weight.

This blog is an attempt to share things that I have learned over the course of my career and personal life, with the hope that they'll be helpful to readers.
