Hi! I'm Subramanyam, most people know me as Subbu. I am an Engineering Leader who loves to build and scale sophisticated products.

I spent the first 7 years of my career developing large-scale, real-time distributed systems, building multi-tenant data pipelines that scaled 40x from 250k to over 12 million events per minute, migrating monoliths into microservices, and working across IoT and manufacturing domains.

I then moved to a fitness startup for a couple of years, building a heart fitness platform around real-time heart rate data, guided training plans, and behavioural nudges, leading a team of five. The startup unfortunately didn't work out, but it taught me how to build, ship, sell, and know when to pivot.

Currently, I lead Engineering at a FinTech startup, building systems from scratch to power education loan processing at scale, supporting thousands of applications daily, with tens of thousands of loans disbursed amounting to hundreds of crores. I'm the biggest IC on the team while also leading a lean tech, product, and support team, leveraging AI heavily so that a small team can punch well above its weight.

This blog is an attempt to share things that I have learned over the course of my career and personal life, with the hope that they'll be helpful to readers. Every word here is written by me. I use AI as a proofreader, but the thoughts and experiences are entirely my own.
